Derwentside & District Tuesday Night Dart & Domino League Season 2008 - 2009 Season
Review (Steve Dawson) As anybody who
picks up a dart knows you can’t play well all the time, I think our downfall
this season was that we seemed to start very slowly and it took a good few
games before most of the lads started hitting anything like their usual form.
Only a couple of months in to the season we found ourselves chasing Delves
Club in the darts but managed to get ourselves going and slowly but surely
clawed that lead back week by week. A huge thank you to Blackhill Club for
providing us with a new home part of the way into the season, in my opinion
this provided the turning point for us and saw a marked improvement. However
we narrowly lost out to Delves Club who by beating us over the two games put
themselves in pole position and managed to hang on (just). In the dominoes
well what more can I say the lads did it again in what was also a very hard
fought competition this year with 3 or 4 teams genuinely in with a shout
right until the final week or so. 11 points out of the last 15 clinched it
for us. We did manage to
win the Team Knockout Cup this year, having finished as runners up in the
last two seasons, we played particularly well right through the competition
in both darts & dominoes. In terms of
individuals, congratulation to Davy & Timmy on retaining the doubles
trophy, beating Chris & I on route and Davy very narrowly lost out on the
singles trophy too. In terms of individual wins all the lads who played the
majority of the season featured in the top 20 for most wins, with Davy particularly
unlucky to miss out on the number 1 spot with a fantastic 26 out of 28. In
the dominoes there were particularly strong performances all season for Nev
& Glen with them finishing 2nd & 3rd respectively
in the individuals wins table.

Firstly apologies for no
update last week! We suffered another defeat
to Delves Club (7-3 & 3-2) last week. The last two weeks results
have put the ball back in Delves court so tonight was all about us getting as
many points as possible to keep the pressure on. We came away with a great
result 9-1 & 5-0 im not 100% sure of the domino situation but we must be
thereabouts. Delves Club have 1 game
left to play against the Coach & Horses, by my reckoning they need 5
point to win the league. Next week is
Finals night, I have put the darts line up below and the draw is done on the
evening. We continued our tough run in with a game away to our closest rivals Delves Club. We missed a few chances to take out doubles and were punished with a 6-4 defeat. We need to turn this round in the return game as by the looks of things this is going down to the wire. We faired well in the dominoes with a 4-1 win keeping us well in the mix there. I have updated the league tables Following last week we knew it
was going to be another tough game tonight and having a few of the lads
missing left us with the bare bones or a darts & domino squad. A big thanks to Sam for stepping
into such an important game and picking up a win to help us to another 6-4
darts victory. We managed to reverse last weeks
domino result taking a 3-2 win. Great set of lads and a cracking
night. We fully expected a tough game against a
strong team from the C&H. It proved to be just that with us scraping
through to a 6-4 darts win, a 180 for Dominoes didn't go our way tonight with the
C&H taking a 3-2 win. Well it was always going to be
tough to match last weeks result of 10 points in the darts however we came
close to matching it with 9. It was a steady performance with muggins here
losing the only leg against Norman (well done mate). The Derwentside team did however
manage to take the dominoes 3-2 again. At this stage of the season especially with
things been as tight as they are at the top of the table tonight was all
about the result. We had a couple of narrow escapes and luckily managed to
come away with 10 points in the darts. We managed 2 points in the dominoes so well
done to the Derwentside team on picking up 3 points there. It was the Semi final of the team knockout competition tonight and we were up against a strong team in the Wheatsheaf. We knew we had to be focused to progress into the final (in a competition we have narrowly lost out on in recent years). The darts were really steady in all 3 games and the odd shot that was below par was backed up by the next man so a good team performance saw us take the darts 3 - 0. We lost the first domino game but then Super Mac managed to win his game to give us a 4-1 win overall. We will play the final against the Derwentside (Well done lads). It was always going to be a tough ask to
get another 9 darts let alone 10 against a strong Shotley Team. We managed a 7 - 3 win in the darts, hats
off to the Shotley lads who didn't need a second invitation to take out their
doubles for their 3 games. We managed to reverse last weeks domino
result and come away with a 3 - 2 win. We were expecting and certainly
got a tough game against a Shotley team going well in both darts and
especially the dominoes. Some close games in the darts but thankfully we
managed to come out on top in 9 of them to take the darts 9 - 1. The dominoes
unfortunately didn't go our way tonight but we did still pick up 2 points and
by my reckoning Shotley's 3 points makes us level at the top of the table. It's certainly going down to the
wire this year !! After a really enjoyable trip up to the
Moorcock a fortnight ago we were looking forward to the return leg. A cracking performance from all the lads
with a cracking darts result of 10 - 0 to go with it. Everyone seemed to find
some form tonight and we restricted the opposition to very few (if any) out
shots. A steady 3 - 2 win in the dominoes rounded
off a good night all round. Tuesday 17th March - Doubles
Darts Night Well a good night all round and
a good result as both remaining pairs from Blackhill Club made it through to
the last 4. The 4 pairs through to play on
finals night are: D Gill & T Richardson
(Blackhill Club) C Chivers & C Dominey & S Peacock
(Wheatsheaf) D Reed & J Bullerwell
(Chopwell) Sunday 1st March - This weeks game due to be played on Tuesday
the 4th had been rescheduled due to Blackhill missing too many players for
the Tuesday game so thanks to the Stanley Team for being so sporting. The main objective for us was to keep
picking up big points especially in the darts. We managed to equal the home
fixtures result with a 9-1 win in the darts. Highlight being a 148 finish by The dominoes didn't go so well for us this
week with a 4-1 defeat but it still keeps us at the top of the table by my
reckoning so good news still. Tuesday 24th February -
Singles Darts Night This week was singles knockout
night played at the Derwentside. A big well done to Davy Gill from our team
on making it through on the night to the last 4 which will play on finals
night. The other 3 players that went
through were D Crawley, D Dodds & P Fail. The next knockout event is the
Doubles and I have listed the last 16 on the News & Events page. We have
2 teams still in so fingers crossed we can do well again and get 1 if not 2 teams
through to finals night. Nothing much to report really good steady
performance all round and the result was the most important thing with us
taking the darts 9 - 1 and the dominoes 4 - 1 which hopefully should keep the
pressure on Delves in the darts especially. After a week off last week (Due to the snow) and a recent run of good results it was important to pick up where we left off and keep the good form going against a new team to the league this season. We managed an 8 - 2 win in the darts against I have to say a good solid team all round. That was backed up with a 3 - 2 domino win which keeps us right in the mix at the top of the table. Another good performance all round to take
the darts 8 - 2 and hats of to the guys from the Wheatsheaf because the
standard of darts was excellent. Strong games from S Peacock & C Dominey
took the 2 points for the Wheatsheaf for the second week running. A narrow 3
- 2 win in the dominoes but a big win nevertheless which should keep us right
in the mix near the top of the table. We got off to a good start with
a fairly steady team game and really continued from there some good steady
performances all round and were pushed all the way in a lot of the games by
some quality darts from the Wheatsheaf lads. However some strong singles
games helped us on the way to an 8 - 2 result in the darts. We managed to
keep ourselves well in the hunt for top spot in the dominoes with a 4 -1 win. HELP ME KEEP THE SITE UP TO DATE
!! At the moment there are a couple
of people out there who kindly e-mail me with their teams results on a weekly
basis, my hope is that there are more of you out there reading this, if so
kindly e-mail me your results each week that way i can keep the tables up to
date for the benefit of everyone. Well our first game from our new home and
we couldn't really have wished for a better result taking the darts 10-0
again and a 4-1 win in the dominoes. Everyone played well on the night and
the best moments were very strong singles games from Davy & Timmy. The task now is to keep up this level of
performance and see if we can peg back a few points on the leaders. Not a great deal to report with
the greatest of respect to the Turf it was a case of picking up max points
against an under strength team and thankfully we did just that with a couple
of narrow escapes to take the darts 10-0 and the doms3-2, highlights 180's
each for D Gill & S Dawson. Well not much to say really other than we got
through and managed to get the better of Delves this time having narrowly
lost to them the previous two years. I'm not sure which teams are left in this
now, if anybody knows please drop me an e-mail. A marked improvement on previous
weeks in terms of a steady overall performance and a much better points haul
to go with it taking the darts 8 - 2 and the dominoes 3 - 2. A hugely frustrating night with the only
highlights being strong singles games from Davy & Timmy everyone else
really struggled for any form whatsoever and we were duly punished and ended
up with a 5-5 score line. The dominoes finished 3-2 in favour of L.C.C. with
Glen & Jimmy winning their games. We need to really start performing now
and start gaining ground on Delves Club. Following last weeks result we
needed to go and get a good result tonight and maintain the pressure on
Delves Club in the darts league especially. To summarise we managed to take
the darts 7 - 3 with In the dominoes we managed to
overturn last weeks result to win 3 - 2 on the night with Well we have a week off next
week what with the unfortunate news regarding the Castleside Inn. I'm
thinking maybe some doubles with the ladies team involved.
